Welcome to Le Potier Pothier

Ronald Pothier

As in many cases, the Pothier name originated from the profession. The name and its variations are derived from the word "pot", which is from the Latin term "pottus". The name identifies a person who fabricates and sells pots. The main variations of Pothier are Potier, Pottier, Potiez, and Poterot.  It is clear that the use of the Pothier name has been used in France since the 15th C.  One of the oldest references to the Pothier name is the baptismal certificate of Andre Pothier, son of Mangin Enot Pothier, born December 20th 1651. Crests containing the names Pothier, Pottier and Potier have been traced back to the Normandy and Champagne regions of France. Source: Historical Resource Center
